INFORMATION

The launch of Dementia Friendly Dereham in the Autumn of 2015 signalled a stage in wanting to identify better ways of supporting those in our community with dementia. The initial meeting was well attended by many businesses and those wanting to learn more and consider how they as individuals could make a difference.

Part of our work as a group is to identify what currently exists to support our work across our community. This will involve other volunteer groups and organisations such as Creative Arts East who have been working in the area recently.

Businesses have also recognized the importance of considering how they can help those with Dementia. The East Midlands Co-Op has trained all its staff in Dementia friendly techniques. The Community Sports and Leisure centre in Dereham has gained the Dementia Friendly award, one of the first in this area. Other businesses and shops that have gained this can display a special sticker logo to inform you when we have a certain number we will indicate where these establishments are.

We want to create a diary of events and directory of information for you to refer to so you feel supported and well informed at all times. Other useful sources of information include these web links:

The current list of those who have gained the dementia friendly mark include (with others to be added over the months ahead):
